Pincher Creek Kite Festival cancelled for 2009

Kite festival falls from sky

  By Rebecca Medel, Reporter

There will be no Children of the Wind Kite Festival this year.

On Feb. 23 the committee of four met in the basement of the Municipal District of Pincher Creek building hoping others would show up for the meeting. Four people from out of town did, but there was no one else from Pincher Creek.

As a result Denise Somerville, who volunteers as treasurer for the kite festival, said the group decided to take a hiatus this year.

Nirvana 2nd Edition

A preview of the new Nirvana by Paul May posted the R-Sky Forum.

A few weeks ago I got the New Nirvana, the Nirvana SE, to write a test report fort he German kite magazine “KITE & friends”. Today I wrote this test report that’ll be published in issue 6/2008 of our mag. Hers’s especially for YOU a sneak peview of this article.

The test model I got is made of Icarex PC 31 and has a wrapped Skyshark frame. In the leading edges we find P300s and as lower spreaders there are 5PTs. That frame gives the Nirvana SE enough stiffness and a wide wind range. More details about the sewing etc. may be read in the mag.

Now let’s talk about how the Nirvana SE behaves in the Sky. What I expected was a Kite that’s a little easier to trick than the old Nirvana. What I was hoping was that this might work without a great loss in precision.
From the first look upon the reverse turbo bridle I was sure that the new Nirvana would do better Backspins. And indeed: Backspins are dead easy and even Backspin Cascades are not a real problem. Also the Comete is extremely easy with this kite. Jacob’s Ladders? What a fun! Flatspins? Nice and flat. A real improvement are the Taz Machines that are now much easier. Only the Backflip is not as deep as it used to be but all kinds of Lazy Susans are still a great fun and no problem at all. The benefit of this a little more neutral balance is that Yo-Fades now work easier. With the factory weight setting (~20 g) the way into the Yo-Yo was a little far for me. But additional 5 grams and this was perfect for me and the Nirvana SE rolled up fast and easy.
The Nirvana SE seems a little (really just a little) less precise as his processor. But it’s still a kite that nails the corners into the sky without any wobble, that comes out of tight spins without any oversteer. All in all it’s still the reliable kite I used to love. Whatever you’d like to do - a fast and wild combination of freestyle manoeuvres, a complicated trick or “just” a snappy two-point-landing in the center of the wind window at 25 km/h windspeed? The Nirvana SE does it with ease!

So what should I say? The Nirvana SE is what it should be (and what I expected): Still a Nirvana. An even better Nirvana and a great kite. A wonderful kite!
Dear Roger! You did a very good job. This kite is pure Rock’n’ Roll!

Diablis by R-Sky

For the first time since his history, R-SKY collaborates with an outside designer and step whatever, a pilot in recognized qualities, an adjuster doubled of an excellent kitedesigner, often declined for the freestyle, to ease access to the newbies in tricks last generation. His name made the tour of the world and on specialized forums.
By offering the plan of its Virus to the amateurs of construction, this one met an ever equaled success. We hope him for so much return with this new kite of which we took care of manufacture and of communication.
